so, you need to put your head down and write. the deadlines are real. the challenges are real. but, you're not alone.
move forward is an eight week writing program designed to help you set real, achievable goals, and then develop the habits you need to make that real over the course of eight weeks. if you've been looking for structure, accountability, and someone to care about what you do before the deadline, this is the program for you.
created a container for experimentation and learning for graduate students who were afraid (with good reason) to admit what they didn’t know
provided needed accountability and visibility for people going through huge schedule changes, life changes, and everything in between
given neurodivergent people the permission to let go of how their advisor told them to do something and move into a system that actually works with how their brain works
been a space of encouragement and support when you just have to push and get the thing off your desk, knowing that getting comfortable with imperfection is hard, but not finishing it is harder
three one one one sessions with me - think of these as deep dives where we go in on something that’s blocking you, or you want to learn more about
a personalized Notion space where you can track goals, daily work, weekly planning, and more
daily comments from me on your work logs - i cheer you on! i share resources that can help! i see you in the hard stuff so you don’t feel so alone
access to continuing care ala carte so that you can build on our progress with ongoing support
more effective time and energy management
more realistic and compassionate goal setting
building more consistency and confidence in your writing routine
staying out of rabbit holes and reducing anxiety around deadlines
creating a workflow that actually supports your brain, body, life, and project
learning the parts of the academic work that no one ever taught you, or you didn’t even know you didn’t know
feeling like your work isn’t just going into a void, but is adding up day to day
sign up (sliding scale and payment plans are available)
you get sent and fill out an onboarding survey
schedule your first session where you get a tour of your custom work space
we work together for eight weeks (and don’t worry - sometimes need flexibility and that’s okay!)
you schedule your second and third sessions when they’ll benefit you the most
once our eight weeks are over, you get an email with a few different ways for us to keep working together (ie, you don’t need to keep buying move forward over and over again!)
nope! the program is very flexible - you can track multiple goals easily. some people track smaller parts of a bigger project, and others have projects in multiple areas of their work and life that they work on - you track the things you want to move forward!
nope!!! i designed it to support writing, but i consider writing a holistic process that encompasses reading, note-taking, revising, and drafting. clients are also successfully using it to support course work, side-gig work, data processing, and teaching!
most days!!! we have three one on one sessions together, but i also check your site multiple times a week, and reach out when I don’t hear from you (at an interval and in a way that you consent to!). you also have ways in the system to signal me that you need extra support, or to reach out directly with questions and concerns.
move forward has open enrollment - you sign up, and you very quickly get an email to help you customize your space and set up your first session. you set the schedule - so you can always pay at a time that works for your budget, and then choose the date you start, or get started with 24 hours if that’s what you choose!
not at all - i’ve successfully worked with faculty members, post-docs and independent scholars in this way. if you’re a scholar and a human, move forward can be for you.
it was so hard for me to navigate grad school with my brain, my body, and my life - i felt like i was the only one who didn’t get it. but i eventually got comfortable asking questions, advocating for myself, and i found ways to support myself and the PhD i have proves that they work. i know firsthand how isolating it can be to feel like the only one who doesn’t get it, who is struggling, who finds all of this really really hard - so i made Thrive PhD and especially move forward for everyone who is feeling that way and doesn’t want to anymore.
Thrive PhD started in 2017 and has touched thousands of people all around the world in all kinds of fields. read more about my background and mission here. when i’m not at my desk, you can find me gardening, hiking, reading on my porch, or taking a nap with one of my cats.
